Sad/Happy Day

Ginger went to his new home today.

I'm kind of sad, but I think he will be really, really happy with his new family.

They seem like great people, that really care about their animals.

And they have the hobby farm that I've always wanted!

They have chickens and goats, a garden, very nice.

Lucky Ginger.

Tomorrow morning I'm meeting someone else that wants Pepper and Dixie.

It's always a little nerve racking to meet someone that you don't know, but you are giving them a little animal you have worried over and cared for.

Fingers crossed they will have a great new life too!

I had 17 people respond to my craigslist post! In 8 hours!

Wow!

I know I picked the right people for Ginger, but I just hope I picked the right people for Pepper and Dixie.

I will miss them, but I couldn't keep them, because they started crowing ALL the TIME.

Poor babies.

Worry and Trouble

Uh Oh!

Somechick's started crowing!

I've only heard it twice. The first time I thought it was Lavender warning the chicks about some danger. But today I heard it and it sounds like a tiny crow.

The chicks all run around scared after hearing the crow, so I can't figure out who's crowing.

Also, Dixie is growing some BIG wattles.

Boy? Girl?

Pixie has zero wattles and Pepper and Ginger have tiny ones.

It's a little dark and hard to see, but this is a video of the chicks all trying to sleep underneath Lavender.

As you can see they are a tiny bit to big.

Also, notice how Lavender is panting. It was 80 F degrees in their pen and the chicks still wanted to cuddle!

8 Weeks

There has been an explosion of fluff in the last week!

Every chick is now sporting their own unique style.

Chicks Outside!

I've been letting Lavender and the chicks outside everyday for an hour. It works best to let them out earlier in the morning, while the ladies are paying the rent (laying their communal egg).

I tried to divide the outdoor pen into a section for Lavender and a section for the ladies, but Lavender didn't like that idea. She wants all the space. Don't fence her in!

I am really worried about the ladies pecking the chicks on the head, so if they are outside together I have to babysit them.
